About Old Irving Park
The neighborhood of Old Irving Park has attracted enormous attention in recent years as young professionals and new families have fled the escalating prices and congestion of such eastern and southern neighbors as Lakeview, Wrigleyville, Lincoln Park and DePaul in search of large homes at affordable prices in a peaceful setting. The close proximity of Old Irving Park to the aforementioned neighborhoods allows residents to return to their former haunts when seeking fun and lively excitement.
Old Irving Park is truly a community, often referred to as a suburb within the city, where one not only knows his and her neighbors but also gets involved in the community. The housing in Old Irving Park is comprised mainly of large single family homes on enormous city lots, where a huge backyard or side lot is not uncommon. Additionally, there are a small number of two and three flats apartment walkups, and a growing number of new construction condominiums and single family homes.
The Kennedy Expressway inconspicuously knifes its way through the neighborhood at Addison Street and again at Irving Park Road, making access to O'Hare Airport, the Loop and all suburbs effortless. Public transportation is also plentiful with both "el" and bus stops located conveniently within the neighborhood.
