Ravenswood

Bordered by the north at Foster Avenue, Montrose Avenue on the south, by the west at the Chicago River, and by the east at Ashland Avenue, Ravenswood is known for its courtyard-style residential buildings. Once considered an "up and coming" neighborhood, it's seen its real estate values are one of the highest valued locations in the city.

About Ravenswood

The Ravenswood neighborhood was named for Ravenswood Avenue, which runs along the Chicago and Northwestern Railway line. A truly continental neighborhood, Ravenswood was once home to a large German population. Though much of that group has dispersed or moved on to the suburbs, those who remain carry on the traditions.

During the 1880's and 1890's, the neighborhood grew by leaps and bounds as city streetcar lines reached the area. Today, wonderful outdoor cafes, restaurants and boutique shopping abound along Montrose and Wilson Avenues in this ever changing, diverse neighborhood. The Ravenswood El winds conveniently through the area, making Lakeview, Lincoln Park, Wrigleyville and other hotspots only minutes away.

The lush tree lined streets and neat lawns seem to lend a soft hush to this family oriented neighborhood where wonderful vintage buildings and multi-unit apartment complexes peacefully coexist with new construction condominiums, single family homes and town homes.

Unlike its pricey neighbors to the south, rents in Ravenswood have stayed relatively modest, and for that reason, Ravenswood continues to attract young professionals and families.
