About River North

Until the late 1970's, River North was a haven for factories and warehouses. Today, River North has blossomed into Chicago's answer to New York's SoHo, a haven for art galleries, boutiques, residential lofts and trendy restaurants and bars.

River North is a well established art district that caters to the gallery hopper. Businesses such as graphic design, photography, video production, and publishing, only add to the artist flavor of the area. Approximately fifty galleries have set up shop within the six block radius along Superior and Huron Streets.

In addition to the lively arts scene, River North has more trendy restaurants, bars and dance clubs than one could ever hope to visit in a month of Friday and Saturday evenings out. The Merchandise Mart and the Apparel Center, a Chicago institution formerly owned by the Kennedy family for over a half century, has been renovated into a first class shopping center.

The housing in River North is comprised mainly of pricey loft condominiums and loft rentals, where beamed ceilings, exposed brick and hardwood floors only add to the urban feel of these great apartments.
